Eagles hope Bradford is ready vs. Pats
The Philadelphia Eagles hope quarterback Sam Bradford will be able to return to the starting lineup when they take a three-game losing streak into their road game Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Bradford, who suffered a concussion and an injury to the AC joint in his left shoulder in a 20-19 loss Nov. 15 to the Miami Dolphins, has missed the Eagles’ last two games, both blowout losses.
Bradford, who didn’t speak with reporters, took part in individual drills during an abbreviated practice Tuesday. He is expected to practice more Wednesday.
‘‘We’re looking for him to progress and get to where he needs to be,’’ Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur said.
If Bradford can’t play, Mark Sanchez will make his third consecutive start.
Browns’ McCown out for season
Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown will miss the rest of the season with a broken collarbone suffered Monday against the Baltimore Ravens. McCown kept playing despite taking a big hit in the second half, but he finally had to leave in the fourth quarter.
Coach Mike Pettine said he was not ready to announce who will replace McCown at quarterback. His choices are Austin Davis, who came in for McCown and threw a tying touchdown pass against the Ravens, and Johnny Manziel, who had the starting job before being benched when video surfaced of him partying during the Browns’ bye week.
Officiating crew bounced
The NFL has moved referee Pete Morelli’s crew off the nationally televised game between the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night.
Morelli’s group was criticized harshly by both sides after the Arizona Cardinals-San Francisco 49ers game Sunday. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said the officials ‘‘can’t count to three.’’
