A NEW MODEL for the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee range has been announced in the US. The new rig improves the premium wagon’s offroad capability and boosts the line-up to six.
Called the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, the new model has a unique version of Grand Cherokee’s Quadra-lift air suspension – developed for the Trailhawk – that offers improved articulation and total suspension travel, as well as Selec-speed Control with Hill Ascent Control. Skid plates and a Trailhawk-specific anti-glare hood decal are also standard.
This is in addition to the standard 4WD kit, including the Quadra-drive II 4x4 system with a rear Electronic Limited Slip Differential.
The Trailhawk’s approach angle is 29.8 degrees – or 36.1 degrees when the lower front bumper is removed – while breakover angle is 27.1 degrees and departure angle is 22.8 degrees. Ground clearance with the air suspension raised to its highest setting is 274mm.
The Trailhawk shares the front bumper and grille from the 2016 Grand Cherokee 75th Anniversary edition, but has unique red recovery hooks front and rear, 18-inch (or optional 20-inch) Goodyear Adventure off-road tyres with Kevlar reinforcement, Trailhawk and Trail Rated badges with red accents, mirror caps, and a roof rack with Neutral Gray accents. Mopar sill slider rails are an option.
The Trailhawk is treated to unique black leather and suede seats (‘performance’ seats at the front), brushed Piano Black appliques, gunmetal-finish painted parts, a Trailhawk badge on the steering wheel, and red stitching on the seats, doors and console.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia is hoping to get the Trailhawk here. Spokesman Andrew Chesterton said: “We’re expecting our MY17 vehicles here by the end of the year, and we’d be very excited by the prospect of a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk.”
