The Camp Oven Fes­ti­val, run­ning from Au­gust 19-21, will fea­ture camp oven cook­ing com­pe­ti­tions and demon­stra­tions, live mu­sic, a bush dance, a bush po­etry com­pe­ti­tion, mar­kets, great food, tra­di­tional dance per­for­mances, dog tri­als and even al­paca shear­ing. A TASTE OF EYRE PENIN­SULA (SA)

This event held on the Eyre Penin­sula has evolved from a sim­ple farmer’s mar­ket to a mas­sive food and wine fes­ti­val. INNAMINCKA PIC­NIC RACES & GYMKHANA (SA)

Held on the Satur­day and Sun­day prior to the Birdsville Races in late Au­gust, the Innamincka Pic­nic Races and Gymkhana is an en­ter­tain­ing warm-up for the Birdsville ex­trav­a­ganza. The Gymkhana pro­vides a unique op­por­tu­nity to wit­ness out­stand­ing dis­plays of out­back horse­man­ship, while the pic­nic races pro­vide an in­sight into the way bush rac­ing used to be. GYMPIE MU­SIC MUSTER (QLD)

Aus­tralia’s largest char­ity fes­ti­val is cel­e­brat­ing its 35th an­niver­sary this year! This com­mu­nity-driven fes­ti­val will be held in the Amamoor Creek State For­est – only a two-hour drive from Bris­bane – and will fea­ture more than 120 artists in­clud­ing Kasey Cham­bers, Luke O’shea and new­comer Fanny Lums­den. The Imintji Store on the Gibb River Road has re-opened. Sup­plies of fresh fruit and veg­eta­bles are lim­ited and only diesel fuel is avail­able. CAMOOWEAL DROVERS CAMP FES­TI­VAL (QLD)

The town of Camooweal will cel­e­brate the 20th an­niver­sary of the Drovers Camp Fes­ti­val from Au­gust 26-28. Vis­i­tors can en­joy top-class art and pho­to­graphic ex­hi­bi­tions, be en­ter­tained at the new Drovers Camp­site, en­joy tra­di­tional camp cook­ing, have a yarn with an old drover, and chat to bush bal­ladeers and other sto­ry­tellers. QUEEN OF THE DESERT FES­TI­VAL (SA)

Paint your wagon, get your friends and fam­ily to­gether, dress in some out­landish clothes and join the con­voy from Au­gust 15-19. This out­back SA event will take you to The Mar­ree Ho­tel, Wil­liam Creek Ho­tel and The Pink Road­house in Ood­na­datta. TYRE & ME­CHAN­I­CAL RE­PAIRS ON THE GRR (WA)

The only place you can now get any me­chan­i­cal re­pairs while trav­el­ling the Gibb River Road is at Over The Range Tyre & Me­chan­i­cal Re­pairs, lo­cated about 28km south of Mt Bar­nett. They have an im­pres­sive range of spare tyres, shock ab­sorbers, bat­ter­ies, trailer parts and more. Just don’t ex­pect any com­puter anal­y­sis equip­ment, though there’s a re­cov­ery ser­vice they will con­tact if you have a ma­jor com­puter mal­func­tion.
