THE coals will be stoked when the sleepy Queens­land town­ship of Millmer­ran wel­comes tourists and lo­cals for the 2016 Aus­tralian Camp Oven Fes­ti­val on Oc­to­ber 1-2. The pop­u­lar fes­ti­val of­fers a quirky pro­gram that cel­e­brates au­then­tic Aussie tra­di­tions in­clud­ing camp oven cook­ing demon­stra­tions, damper throw­ing, billy boil­ing, bush po­etry, celebrity chef ap­pear­ances, bush craft dis­plays and much more. BALRANALD 5 RIVERS OUT­BACK FES­TI­VAL (NSW)

THE 5 Rivers Fes­ti­val, held from Oc­to­ber 7-9, cel­e­brates all that is won­der­ful about liv­ing in a ru­ral NSW com­mu­nity that’s sur­rounded by five of the most iconic river sys­tems in NSW. The five rivers are the Mur­ray, Mur­rumbidgee, Lach­lan, Wakool and Ed­ward. PORT PIRIE COUN­TRY MU­SIC FES­TI­VAL (SA)

THE Port Pirie Mu­sic Fes­ti­val is held ev­ery year and for 2016 runs from Oc­to­ber 6-8. It is pri­mar­ily a coun­try mu­sic fes­ti­val but is open to other gen­res – top Aus­tralian artists will per­form over the three and a half days. With the iconic Flin­ders Ranges nearby, as well as a host of 4WD tracks, you’ll have more than great mu­sic keep­ing you en­ter­tained. MANSFIELD HIGH COUN­TRY FES­TI­VAL (VIC)

THE High Coun­try Fes­ti­val com­prises a di­verse va­ri­ety of events, rang­ing from art ex­hi­bi­tions to unique and quirky com­mu­nity events. The fes­ti­val runs from Oc­to­ber 28 to Novem­ber 1 and will fea­ture her­itage ini­tia­tives, art ex­hi­bi­tions, per­for­mance, mu­sic, bush mar­kets, a grand pa­rade, fire­works, a Mel­bourne Cup picnic race meet­ing, some fab­u­lous food and wine events, and lots more. HUON SHOW (TAS)

DRIVE THE GRAN­ITE WAY (WA)

THIS trip can start or end at Kwolyin Camp in the Wheat­belt re­gion of WA, east of Perth. The camp­site has been set up with toi­lets and a camp kitchen, along with tent and car­a­van sites. From here you can set out on a 60km drive through im­pres­sive gran­ite rocks and peaks, in­clud­ing Kokerbin Rock, Mount Stir­ling, Caro­line Gap and the small ham­let of Shack­le­ton.
