THIS MONTH we’re look­ing at the bit-play­ers in the 4WD mar­ket – that is, the 4WDS that sol­dier on de­spite only sell­ing at a trickle.

We’re not in­clud­ing those 4WDS that are about to get the chop, such as the Y61 Nissan Pa­trol, Land Rover De­fender and Toy­ota FJ Cruiser.

The un­der-rated Ssangy­ong Rex­ton has found just one buyer in August, with the 2016 tally to the end of August at just 36 units. Just two Ssangy­ong Ac­tyon Sports utes were sold in August, with just 24 ex­am­ples sold so far this year.

The über-ex­pen­sive Mercedes-benz G-class has found 11 cashed-up buy­ers in August, with the an­nual tally run­ning at 71 to date.

Haval joined VFACTS for the first time in August, with its H9 find­ing just 15 buy­ers for the new Chi­nese SUV.

Fo­ton has done a bit bet­ter with the Tun­land, with 48 4WD utes sold in August and 497 sold year-to-date.

The ev­er­green Suzuki Jimny still clocks a sur­pris­ing num­ber of sales, with 21 sold in August and 505 so far this year.
