THIS MONTH we’re looking at the bit-players in the 4WD market – that is, the 4WDS that soldier on despite only selling at a trickle.
We’re not including those 4WDS that are about to get the chop, such as the Y61 Nissan Patrol, Land Rover Defender and Toyota FJ Cruiser.
The under-rated Ssangyong Rexton has found just one buyer in August, with the 2016 tally to the end of August at just 36 units. Just two Ssangyong Actyon Sports utes were sold in August, with just 24 examples sold so far this year.
The über-expensive Mercedes-benz G-class has found 11 cashed-up buyers in August, with the annual tally running at 71 to date.
Haval joined VFACTS for the first time in August, with its H9 finding just 15 buyers for the new Chinese SUV.
Foton has done a bit better with the Tunland, with 48 4WD utes sold in August and 497 sold year-to-date.
The evergreen Suzuki Jimny still clocks a surprising number of sales, with 21 sold in August and 505 so far this year.
