Buyers beware

ABC (Australia) - - AT THE HELM -

is the message and a cautionary warning for all operators who have heard the ‘ wives tale’ circulating the industry when it comes to operating vehicles that are more than 2.5 metres wide, the legal ADR requirement. The only way vehicles over 2.5m can operate is if they are performance-based standard (PBS) approved. There is no permit. A manufacturer has to get these vehicles PBS approved. And after that there is no guarantee they can operate, as gaining access to the road network in each state or territory is not automatic. In fact, no government is providing general access rights to any bus over 2.5m wide, and are unlikely to.
