Jail for films of students
A former music teacher who filmed students at schools in the south of the State to satisfy his fetish for stockings has been jailed for five years.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, recorded about 40 students at primary and high schools in the Perth metropolitan area and in the south and southeastern areas of WA between February 2012 and July 2015.
He used a spy video application on his mobile phone to film students as young as six, often capturing the thighs, legs and lower bodies of girls wearing stockings.
Some of the recordings were made during lessons, when he would place the phone on the floor, while others were made when he concealed a camera in a box or on a shelf while students were undressing.
The man, who pleaded guilty to 62 child sex offences, also filmed children who were not his students, including an eight-year-old girl at a supermarket, an 11-yearold girl at a Scouts jamboree and another girl at a civic centre.
The offending was uncovered when his phone was left at a school and found by a fellow teacher.
Detectives searched the man’s home in August 2015 and found thousands of child exploitation images.
After his arrest, he told officers he had a “fetish for stockings”.
The man, who has already served 18 months behind bars, will be made eligible for parole after serving three years of his sentence.
