Albany Advertiser - - NEWS - Tim Edmunds

The remaining works of the first stage of the Centennial Park sporting precinct redevelopment are expected to be completed in five months.

Work has started on two more football fields behind the recently completed Centennial Stadium, as well as the new home for the Albany Agricultural Society.

City of Albany executive director works and services Matthew Thomson said the grounds would be full-size football fields with lighting compliant to 100-lux.

He said the City had also been successful in securing an additional $6.9 million from the State Government to complete stage two of the development.

“These ovals are located in front of three agricultural society buildings, which are currently being built along Cockburn Road,” he said.

“We expect the grounds to be complete by October this year, which will finalise the total $28 million upgrade.”

The City council on Tuesday night approved the tender for J&S Castlehow Electrical to install the lighting for the training fields, as well as an upgrade to the lights at Collingwood Park.

The 100-lux lighting on the fields will be the same as across Lockyer Avenue at Railways Football Club.

The demolition of the former clubrooms of Royals Football Club last month paved the way for the development of the ovals and agricultural society buildings.
