Golfers line up for Proudies

Albany Advertiser - - NEWS - Tim Edmunds

The chance of winning a new car is expected to lure golfers for a good cause next month when the Proudies Foundation hosts its first fundraising golf day in Albany.

The Proudies Foundation Golf Day at Albany Golf Club will be the foundation’s major fundraiser in the city for the year, with funds to assist in the care of Warrick Proudlove, who was seriously injured in a car accident in 2011. A talented local footballer, Proudlove was playing for Claremont Football Club when the car he was a passenger in hit a stray horse and a tree on Albany Highway near Mt Barker.

He has since required round-theclock care after sustaining serious head injuries, leading to the foundation being established to assist his family financially.

A new Nissan X-Trail from Albany City Motors is up for grabs for the player who can sink a hole in one on the par-three 10th hole, with the four-person Ambrose event expected to attract golfers of all abilities.

The golf day, which includes dinner and entertainment by local band Pinstripe, will follow on from the annual Proudies Golf Day in Perth on October 6.

Proudies Foundation board member Steve Shann said the golf day would be the first major fun- draiser in Albany since 2014’s Doing it for a Mate calendar.

“We want to make this an annual event so hopefully it’s a successful one,” he said. “A lot of guys wanted to support the Perth golf day last year but couldn’t travel, so with this they have the opportunity.”

The Proudies Foundation Golf Day will be held on Friday, October 27. Entry is $400 a team. Entry forms can be collected from the club.
