Veteran fisherman nets council director role
Third-generation Albany commercial fisherman Tony Westerberg has been appointed as one of two new directors to the Western Australian Fishing Industry Council.
Mr Westerberg, who has fished south coast waters for more than 40 years, was appointed at the WAFIC annual general meeting for a three-year term.
Former WAFIC chairman Clayton Nelson said Mr Westerberg would provide experience and expertise to the board.
Mr Westerberg has been outspoken on industry issues including recreational herring bag limits and the closure of the commercial herring fishery in 2015.
Earlier this year, he weighed into the shark-culling debate, raising the prospect of giving charter operators a licence to catch great white sharks.
