Traps set for moun­tain bik­ers

Po­lice say moun­tain bik­ers are be­ing tar­geted by the set­ting of “man traps” on trails on Mt Clarence af­ter re­cent in­ci­dents left rid­ers in­jured.

Al­bany po­lice are now in­ves­ti­gat­ing the in­ci­dent, which left the 47year-old rider with a se­ri­ous lac­er­a­tion to his leg and other in­juries.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred be­tween 2.30pm and 3pm on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 15, at the Al­bany Pi­lot Trail at Apex Drive, on Mt Clarence.

Se­nior Con­sta­ble Ben­nett Moss said a branch was placed across the track at han­dle­bar height re­sult­ing in the rider col­lid­ing and crash­ing and need­ing 17 stitches to his leg.

How­ever, Sen Const Moss said the in­ci­dent was not iso­lated.

On Mon­day, a 49-year-old rider was in­jured af­ter a branch was placed across an­other track on Mt Clarence.

Po­lice urge any­one who wit­nesses sus­pi­cious be­hav­iour or with in­for­ma­tion on the re­cent in­ci­dents to con­tact Al­bany po­lice on 9892 9300.
