Min­is­ter to cut rib­bon on NDIS

Min­is­ter for Dis­abil­ity Ser­vices and En­vi­ron­ment Stephen Daw­son will ar­rive in Al­bany to­day to open a Na­tional Dis­abil­ity In­sur­ance Scheme (NDIS) cen­tre.

An of­fi­cial cer­e­mony will take place at the premises on Lower Stir­ling Ter­race this af­ter­noon, with Mr Daw­son and other guest speak­ers.

There are more than 500 peo­ple with a dis­abil­ity in the Great South­ern re­gion.

The scheme aims to in­vest in peo­ple with a dis­abil­ity to gain the skills and ca­pa­bil­ity to im­prove their out­comes for later life, in­clud­ing chances of em­ploy­ment and com­mu­nity par­tic­i­pa­tion.

Tri­als be­gan in 2013 and im­ple­mented from 2016 in stages over three years. It is ex­pected to be op­er­at­ing com­pletely from mid-2019.
