19-year-old killed as car runs into tree
Police are investigating a crash which claimed the life of a 19-year-old man on Albany Highway near North Bannister, one of two motor accidents at the weekend.
Major Crash investigators say a black Mazda 6 sedan was being driven south on Albany Highway near Wearne Road about 10.40pm on Saturday when the car left the road and struck a tree.
The teen driver, from Marangaroo, died at the scene. He was the only person in the car. Earlier in the evening a pedestrian was taken to hospital after being struck as he walked along the Great Southern Highway south of Wagin.
Local police say a silver Holden Commodore was being driven north along the highway about 10.05pm when it struck a 44-year-old Katanning man walking south on the same side of the road.
Wagin police officers were conducting a patrol in the area and came across the crash scene, about 3km south of Lime Lake Road East in WA’s Great Southern.
The pedestrian was taken to Katanning District Hospital by St John Ambulance to be treated for injuries to his arms and legs.
The driver of the Holden Commodore and his passenger stopped at the scene.
