Spinks soars in scroungers
Jason Spinks recorded the round of the week at Albany Golf Club to win the men’s mid-week scroungers in style.
Spinks scored an even par round of 72 off his one handicap, a round that included four birdies and four bogies for a score of 37 points in the Stableford competition.
Mike Castieau finished second, also with 37 points, losing a countback to Spinks while the morning nine-hole competition was won by Peter Larard with 16 points.
Max Morrison scored 19 points to win the men’s Monday nine-hole competition by two shots from runner-up Bill Marshall.
In difficult conditions, Jan Gardiner played well to win the ladies’ Tuesday nine-hole event with 16 points.
Thursday’s ladies played stroke for the Mark Blyth Jewellers monthly medal and it was Kerry Steicke who carded a nett 77 to win by one from Marlene Provost.
Steicke’s 87 off the stick also won her the trophy for best gross for the day and Glenys Scott won the ninehole Stableford competition with a score of 18 points.
A countback was needed to separate the top three players in the men’s Friday nine-hole competition, all scoring 18 points.
Ian Skalko was the countback winner from Duncan Percival and Steve Vanderbyl. Kevin Brown scored a nett 70 to win the men’s monthly mug stroke event last Saturday. The ladies’ event was won by Val Crossley (nett 75), one shot better than runners-up Narelle Caddy and Gail Kneale.
Two of our junior members, Ben Jackson and Jack Freeman, took the honours in the men’s sweepstakes event on Sunday.
Jackson carded 43 points to win by one from Freeman, with Ivor Watkins finishing third, three shots back on 39 points.
Gail Kneale continued her run of recent good form, winning the ladies’ sweepstakes event on a countback from Irene Moran after both ladies scored 34 points.
Irene Moran gets out of trouble on the 14th.
