Spinks soars in scroungers

Ja­son Spinks recorded the round of the week at Al­bany Golf Club to win the men’s mid-week scroungers in style.

Spinks scored an even par round of 72 off his one hand­i­cap, a round that in­cluded four birdies and four bo­gies for a score of 37 points in the Stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion.

Mike Castieau fin­ished sec­ond, also with 37 points, los­ing a count­back to Spinks while the morn­ing nine-hole com­pe­ti­tion was won by Pe­ter Larard with 16 points.

Max Mor­ri­son scored 19 points to win the men’s Mon­day nine-hole com­pe­ti­tion by two shots from run­ner-up Bill Mar­shall.

In dif­fi­cult con­di­tions, Jan Gardiner played well to win the ladies’ Tues­day nine-hole event with 16 points.

Thurs­day’s ladies played stroke for the Mark Blyth Jew­ellers monthly medal and it was Kerry Ste­icke who carded a nett 77 to win by one from Mar­lene Provost.

Ste­icke’s 87 off the stick also won her the tro­phy for best gross for the day and Glenys Scott won the nine­hole Stable­ford com­pe­ti­tion with a score of 18 points.

A count­back was needed to sep­a­rate the top three play­ers in the men’s Fri­day nine-hole com­pe­ti­tion, all scor­ing 18 points.

Ian Skalko was the count­back win­ner from Dun­can Per­ci­val and Steve Van­der­byl. Kevin Brown scored a nett 70 to win the men’s monthly mug stroke event last Satur­day. The ladies’ event was won by Val Cross­ley (nett 75), one shot bet­ter than run­ners-up Narelle Caddy and Gail Kneale.

Two of our ju­nior mem­bers, Ben Jack­son and Jack Free­man, took the hon­ours in the men’s sweep­stakes event on Sun­day.

Jack­son carded 43 points to win by one from Free­man, with Ivor Watkins fin­ish­ing third, three shots back on 39 points.

Gail Kneale con­tin­ued her run of re­cent good form, win­ning the ladies’ sweep­stakes event on a count­back from Irene Mo­ran af­ter both ladies scored 34 points.
