Man, 40, ar­rested at Katan­ning hos­pi­tal

Po­lice re­sponded to a “code black” at Katan­ning Hos­pi­tal last Tues­day af­ter a 40-year-old man al­legedly threat­ened mem­bers of staff with a knife.

Dur­ing the in­ci­dent Katan­ning hos­pi­tal was closed briefly and exit and en­trance to the hos­pi­tal was re­stricted.

Con­sta­ble Rob Gaynor said po­lice at­tended the hos­pi­tal and have since charged the 40-yearold Katan­ning man on six counts, in­clud­ing disor­derly be­hav­iour in public, disor­derly con­duct in a po­lice sta­tion and pos­sess­ing dan­ger­ous ar­ti­cles. Un­der the WA Health Emer­gency Code, code black is spec­i­fied as an emer­gency dur­ing which “a per­son is threat­en­ing or at­tempt­ing to harm them­selves or oth­ers”.

No mem­ber of the public was harmed dur­ing the in­ci­dent and the man ap­peared in Katan­ning Court­house on Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 23.
