Garage sales help planet

Albany Extra - - Extra News - Saskia Adysti

The Shire of Denmark will hold a two-day weekend garage sale as part of the Garage Sale Trail to encourage Denmark and surrounding communities to reduce their yearly waste.

Janice De Cosham, an avid collector and a Denmark resident, will be joining the garage sale event for the second time this year.

She will hold a sale at her home on both days of the event.

“I used to be an arts and craft teacher and I have masses of fabric and materials that I no longer use,” Ms De Cosham said.

“And the sale turned out to be such a great success — so I come back for the second time around.”

Ms De Cosham said her material might have ended up in landfill if she had not managed to sell it last year.

“This time I’ve got a whole stack of German beer steins that I collected from Germany and around Europe — and some of them are quite collected pieces,” she said.

More than 150 local councils have signed up for the Garage Sale Trail event to encourage more Australians to reuse and recycle.

The Denmark Garage Sale event will be held on Saturday, October 21.
