Albany’s historic Camp Quaranup hosts a Community Open Day this Saturday to encourage young and old to get outside as part of Outdoor October.

Many are familiar with the Department of Sport and Recreation site which established itself as Albany Quarantine Station in 1875.

Camp Quaranup manager Ian Sprigg said the open day would allow visitors to learn about the history of the area, and participate in activities such as archery, bubble soccer, canoeing, geocaching, and stand-up paddleboarding.

“Our Community Open Day allows locals and visitors to explore the historical buildings and grounds and have a go at a range of recreation activities,” he said.

“We want to encourage people to be active and outside as part of Outdoors October.”

Mr Sprigg said Camp Quaranup was a true gem of the Great Southern and events like this gave the public an opportunity to appreciate the history.

Camp Quaranup also provides accommodation, food and drinks, and guided tours on the day.

A ferry will be available from the Albany Marina for $2 return trip, departing every half hour from 10am.

Outdoors October is a program by Outdoors WA.

Camp Quaranup is located on the Vancouver Peninsula.

Entry is free to the Camp Quaranup Community Open Day.
