Pub’s parmi a fan favourite

In­swing Al­bany Sports Bar’s Aus­tralian pub meal clas­sic, the chicken parmi­giana, was voted the best in town on the Al­bany Ad­ver­tiser Face­book page last week.

The sport bar and in­door golf fa­cil­ity takes an Amer­i­can ap­proach to its menu, of­fer­ing its crumbed chicken with five en­tic­ing op­tions.

The mouth-wa­ter­ing parmi­giana can be en­joyed in a cre­ative se­lec­tion of flavours — orig­i­nal, Hawai­ian, Mex­i­can, Ital­ian or Aussie.

Owner Adam Pumphrey said the venue had a “parmi fol­low­ing” and al­ways re­ceived a lot of feed­back on the hot item.

“We ob­vi­ously want to keep sup­port­ing th­ese guys and grow­ing our parmi fol­low­ing, hence we in­tro­duced $15 parmis ev­ery Tues­day to en­joy,” he said.

“Th­ese are not bought parmis pre-made — I wouldn’t al­low it.

“We don’t worry about fancy spices or spe­cial bread­crumb mixes but if you choose, you can add a bit of pizza top­ping to your parmi, for a bit of ex­tra flavour.”

Mr Pumphrey said liv­ing in re­gional WA should not ex­clude the peo­ple of Al­bany from hav­ing a venue of their style to en­joy.

“My years of ex­pe­ri­ence tell me we need more themed li­censed venues in the in­dus­try to keep it vi­brant,” he said.

“We saw the need for a unique venue in town and that has evolved into the venue peo­ple see to­day.”

One year ago, the parmi­giana would have been 70 per cent of food sales at the venue but now ac­counts for only 30 per cent.

Mr Pumphrey said they had de­vel­oped an ex­ten­sive range of qual­ity fresh meals in the four years of kitchen op­er­a­tion. “We want all staff and cus­tomers to feel wel­come and en­joy the ex­pe­ri­ence,” he said.
