Walpole au­thor Sarah Drum­mond and her de­but novel The Sound are in the run­ning to win the In­ter­na­tional Dublin Lit­er­ary Award.

She is one of nine Aus­tralian au­thors in the 137 writ­ers world­wide to be short-listed after nom­i­na­tions.

The Sound is a his­tor­i­cal fic­tion work based on the true story of two seal­ing crews in WA in 1825.

The prize of €100,000 is the world’s most valu­able an­nual lit­er­ary prize for a sin­gle work of fic­tion in English.

Drum­mond was nom­i­nated by the State Li­brary of West­ern Aus­tralia.
