Young tal­ent show­cased at car­ni­val

Hun­dreds of young play­ers hit the courts for the highly successful Great South­ern ju­nior net­ball car­ni­val at Al­bany Leisure and Aquatic Cen­tre last Sun­day.

It was the first time Al­bany Net­ball As­so­ci­a­tion had hosted the event, run by Den­mark Net­ball Club, which at­tracted 36 teams from seven dif­fer­ent as­so­ci­a­tions.

Al­bany, Nar­ro­gin, Ongerup, Den­mark, Katan­ning, Esper­ance, Raven­sthorpe and Ko­jonup were all rep­re­sented, with teams pre­par­ing for the up­com­ing Mem­bers’ Cham­pi­onships in Perth over the June long week­end.

Al­bany won four of the divi­sions, while Nar­ro­gin and Katan­ning also tasted suc­cess in a num­ber of high-qual­ity fi­nals.

In the under-17s, Al­bany 1 were com­fort­able win­ners over Al­bany 2, 32-11, with Al­bany 5 successful over Al­bany 4 in the under-15s de­cider 35-20. Al­bany 6 won the under-14s ti­tle af­ter beat­ing Al­bany 7, 23-16, and Nar­ro­gin 3 won 1918 in a thriller over Al­bany 8 in the under-13s. Katan­ning 3 edged out Al­bany 10 in the under-12s fi­nal 1714, and the other vic­tory went to Al­bany Green af­ter their 16-12 re­sult over Al­bany Gold.

The Great South­ern Net­ball Re­gion also pre­sented its vol­un­teer of the year award, with Kelly Shroeter, from DNC, the re­cip­i­ent.
