Rid­ers cross ob­sta­cles to claim glory

Rid­ers braved tough con­di­tions for the Al­bany Horse­world Event­ing Grand Prix, a com­bined showjump­ing and cross coun­try event held at the Al­bany Eques­trian Cen­tre on Sun­day.

Al­most 30 en­tries were re­ceived for the sec­ond grand prix fea­tur­ing some chal­leng­ing cour­ses to go with the wet and windy con­di­tions.

Ge­or­gia Grant on False Lead, the sole com­peti­tor in the class 1 105cm di­vi­sion, pro­duced an im­pres­sive two rounds on her way to vic­tory.

Young com­peti­tor Brent Par­sons won the class 4 80cm ju­nior cat­e­gory with only 4.4 penal­ties rid­ing Max, de­feat­ing Ta­iah Curtis on Jus Pop­pin, while Asha Bristow was third on BML Fleet­wood Mac.

In the 80cm se­nior di­vi­sion, Jane Meik­le­john and Kate­lyn Shearer could not be sep­a­rated, fin­ish­ing joint win­ners af­ter end­ing with 2.4 penal­ties each in the two rounds.

Shearer was very clean in the class 5 65cm open di­vi­sions, this time rid­ing Never A Rysk, re­ceiv­ing only six penal­ties as she de­feated six other ri­vals. Amy Kennedy was sec­ond and Toni Smythe third.

Becky Stride won the 65cm ju­nior di­vi­sion aboard Filo and she also fin­ished sec­ond part­ner­ing Ma­hogony Gold.

The 45cm open cat­e­gory was won by Amanda Lo­gan and her horse Pem­bellup Achilles, while Ivy Par­sons re­ceived only 10 penal­ties in the 45cm ju­nior di­vi­sion to win with Monty.

Event or­gan­is­ers thanked vol­un­teers and com­peti­tors for their ef­forts in try­ing con­di­tions and also those who trav­elled long dis­tances to take part.
