This may be one of the old­est pho­tos taken in Al­bany. The im­age is part of a se­ries of pho­tos IDIDJ Aus­tralia shared on so­cial me­dia which date be­tween 1858 and 1877.

The im­ages are of Abo­rig­i­nal men around King Ge­orge Sound taken by Euro­pean set­tlers.

“For a his­to­rian or re­searcher they of­fer in­sights into the past that are not avail­able through the writ­ten word or any other means of com­mu­ni­ca­tion,” a spokes­woman for IDIDJ said. “For Abo­rig­i­nal fam­i­lies of the area the pho­tos are a link to an­ces­tors and to cul­tural prac­tices of an­other era.
