Taste fest fund­ing ex­tended

One of the Great South­ern’s most pop­u­lar food and wine fes­ti­vals has se­cured fund­ing for a fur­ther three years.

Taste Great South­ern will con­tinue to please food and wine fans af­ter the pop­u­lar culi­nary fes­ti­val se­cured State Gov­ern­ment fund­ing un­til 2021.

The an­nual event com­prises ac­tiv­i­ties that cel­e­brate the life­style, pre­mium food and award­win­ning wine of Western Aus­tralia’s Great South­ern re­gion.

Aim­ing to high­light the pro­duce the Great South­ern re­gion of­fers, the fes­ti­val of­fers a di­verse pro­gram of events that show­case lo­cal pro­duce, places, tal­ent and cul­ture to visi­tors from out­side of the re­gion.

Past events have at­tracted up to 10,000 at­ten­dees, with about 1500 visi­tors from out­side the Great South­ern re­gion each year, gen­er­at­ing hun­dreds of thou­sands of dol­lars for the lo­cal econ­omy.

Fes­ti­val direc­tor Richard Camp­bell said he was thrilled to hear the fes­ti­val had se­cured the fund­ing.

“I con­grat­u­late Tourism WA for their sup­port and un­der­stand­ing the enor­mous ben­e­fits that the Great South­ern re­gion of­fers the State,” he said.

“The re­gion has so much to of­fer in the ar­eas of tourism, food and wine, and with the evolv­ing recog­ni­tion it will one day be­come one of the most sought-af­ter re­gions in Aus­tralia to visit and en­joy the amaz­ing pro­duce and at­trac­tions.”

“The on­go­ing sup­port is tes­ta­ment to the hard work and pas­sion be­hind those in­volved.”

Taste Great South­ern will de­liver about 25 unique food and wine events over 10 days, from the end of March to early April each year.
