Kane sets sail on STS Leeuwin voyage
A Denmark youth has been given the opportunity to spend a week aboard STS Leeuwin II.
Kane Fiore, 17, has received one of two Southern Ports scholarships to spend a week aboard the ship on a voyage from Albany to Fremantle in January.
Kane said he could not wait to step outside his comfort zone, learn new skills and give back to the community afterwards.
“The experience translates to every aspect of my future life, from jobs to friendships and future opportunities,” he said.
“This opportunity will give me the chance to challenge my physical and emotional limits while putting the teamwork skills I have gained from my Certificate II Leadership course into practice.
“It is a great chance to meet new people and forge lasting friendships.”
Olivia Finn, 15, from Albany, is the second recipient of a Southern Ports scholarship and will also join the voyage.
Crew will join a week-long experience provided by Leeuwin Ocean Adventure on its tall ship STS Leeuwin II, an award-winner in youth development programs.
The program aims to enrich the lives of young people through adventure, participation and challenge, and is funded through the sale of voyages, a combination of grants, corporate sponsorships and donations by organisations and the public.
Since 1986, the STS Leeuwin II has provided exciting and lifechanging programs to more than 40,000 young people across Australia.
