Albany Mountain Bike Club members have continued their strong form on the WAMBA XCO Series circuit, with Shane Burns, Darryn Reed and Jessica Waldron all finishing on the podium in round 6 at the weekend.

That trio and Lachlan Waldron travelled to Collie for the latest round of the State series with impressive results.

In the female under-17 division, Jessica Waldron again performed well on the challenging course to cross the line in second place.

Lachlan Waldron competed in the male under-17 category and, after a solid tussle for a podium finish throughout the event, he finished fourth.

Burns and Reed finished on the podium together in their male C division.

The local pair battled it out between themselves for the minor placings for much of the race but Burns narrowly edged out Reed for second place.

The final leg of the seven-round series will be held in Balinup on August 5. Jessica Waldron holds an unassailable lead in her points standings with one race remaining, while Reed sits in second place overall and Lachlan Waldron has now slipped to fourth place in his series standings.

Meanwhile, Albany had four riders competing in the Element Road Series in Chidlow at the weekend.

Danica Wiggins won the women’s B-grade division whileyounger sister Emily was far too strong for her small field of rivals in the women’s C-grade.

Fay Wiggins also took part, finishing second in the junior girls’ 11 age group and Riley Heslop gained some valuable experience in the men’s B-grade, where he crossed the line in 14th place.
