City of­fers $20,000 grants to at­tract events for re­gion

Event or­gan­is­ers can ap­ply for up to $20,000 from the City of Al­bany as part of two new fund­ing rounds to sup­port ma­jor re­gional and com­mu­nity events in the wake of the COVID-19 cri­sis.

The funds aim to bol­ster eco­nomic re­cov­ery and con­nect the com­mu­nity af­ter months of so­cial iso­la­tion.

Grants up to $20,000 will be avail­able un­der the Re­gional Events Spon­sor­ship fund to help at­tract ma­jor events.

Com­mu­nity Event Grants up to $5000 across two rounds are also avail­able for grass­roots or­gan­is­ers.

City of Al­bany act­ing com­mu­nity ser­vices ex­ec­u­tive di­rec­tor Nathan Wat­son said the events helped build a sense of com­mu­nity pride.

“The eas­ing of COVID-19 re­stric­tions is al­low­ing events to restart, so we’re pleased to be of­fer­ing these grants and hope they will sup­port suc­cess­ful and vi­brant events in our com­mu­nity again,” he said.

The Re­gional Events Spon­sor­ship grants and the first round of Com­mu­nity Event Grants are open un­til Au­gust 7 for events held from Oc­to­ber 1 to Fe­bru­ary 28. The sec­ond round of Com­mu­nity Event Grants will open on Novem­ber 16.
