Saints crush Pies in un­der-14s clash

The Saints cruised to their first win in round two of the South­ern Dis­tricts Ju­nior Foot­ball As­so­ci­a­tion un­der-14s com­pe­ti­tion on Satur­day.

Af­ter a nar­row two-point loss in their first game, the Saints were hun­gry and af­ter a slow first half they were able to skip clear.

The Saints piled on three goals in both the third and fourth quar­ters and kept Den­mark-Walpole to one sec­ond-half goal as they recorded a com­fort­able 52-point vic­tory.

Ge­orge Bock­man led the way in the 9.10 (64) to 2.0 (12) win, boot­ing three ma­jors, while Har­ri­son McLeod also kicked two goals.

The Power and Lions both recorded their sec­ond wins in as many games of the un­der-14 com­pe­ti­tion, to be the only un­de­feated teams.

The Power sprung out of the blocks against Mt Barker lead­ing by 12 points at quar­ter-time and scored two goals to one in the sec­ond term to take a 15-point lead into half-time. Both teams kicked one goal apiece in the third term.

Trail­ing by 14 points head­ing into the fi­nal term, the Bulls pro­duced a gal­lant ef­fort to kick the only two goals of the fourth but went down 4.9 (33) to 4.6 (30).

Cleve Humphries led the Lions to their sec­ond straight win boot­ing three goals against the Ea­gles.

Lions trailed by nine points at half-time af­ter only kick­ing one goal but came home with a wet sail boot­ing nine of the next 11 goals to record a 10.3 (63) to 4.4 (28) win.

Humphries booted three ma­jors for the vic­tors while Lu­cas Page bobbed up with two.

A pow­er­ful first term from the Roos helped them record their first vic­tory of the sea­son. The Roos piled on nine first-half goals against Swans and couldn’t be caught as they won 10.6 (66) to 4.7 (31). Maxwell Swar­brick and Kai­dyn Ham booted three for the win­ners while Ge­of­frey Wynne kicked three for the Swans.

Den­mark-Walpole, Bull­dogs and Power kept their per­fect sea­son tick­ing along in the un­der-12s com­pe­ti­tion af­ter all reg­is­tered their sec­ond win on the week­end.

A dom­i­nant four-quar­ter dis­play from the Mag­pies saw them notch an 8.9 (57) to 0.1 (1) win over Saints.

Bull­dogs crushed Lions af­ter quar­ter-time, pil­ing on seven goals to one to win 9.12 (66) to 3.3 (21).

A strong five-goal sec­ond half by Power pro­pelled them to win 7.8 (50) to 1.3 (9) over Mt Barker.

In the other un­der-12s match Swans downed Ea­gles by 48 points.
