Saints crush Pies in under-14s clash
The Saints cruised to their first win in round two of the Southern Districts Junior Football Association under-14s competition on Saturday.
After a narrow two-point loss in their first game, the Saints were hungry and after a slow first half they were able to skip clear.
The Saints piled on three goals in both the third and fourth quarters and kept Denmark-Walpole to one second-half goal as they recorded a comfortable 52-point victory.
George Bockman led the way in the 9.10 (64) to 2.0 (12) win, booting three majors, while Harrison McLeod also kicked two goals.
The Power and Lions both recorded their second wins in as many games of the under-14 competition, to be the only undefeated teams.
The Power sprung out of the blocks against Mt Barker leading by 12 points at quarter-time and scored two goals to one in the second term to take a 15-point lead into half-time. Both teams kicked one goal apiece in the third term.
Trailing by 14 points heading into the final term, the Bulls produced a gallant effort to kick the only two goals of the fourth but went down 4.9 (33) to 4.6 (30).
Cleve Humphries led the Lions to their second straight win booting three goals against the Eagles.
Lions trailed by nine points at half-time after only kicking one goal but came home with a wet sail booting nine of the next 11 goals to record a 10.3 (63) to 4.4 (28) win.
Humphries booted three majors for the victors while Lucas Page bobbed up with two.
A powerful first term from the Roos helped them record their first victory of the season. The Roos piled on nine first-half goals against Swans and couldn’t be caught as they won 10.6 (66) to 4.7 (31). Maxwell Swarbrick and Kaidyn Ham booted three for the winners while Geoffrey Wynne kicked three for the Swans.
Denmark-Walpole, Bulldogs and Power kept their perfect season ticking along in the under-12s competition after all registered their second win on the weekend.
A dominant four-quarter display from the Magpies saw them notch an 8.9 (57) to 0.1 (1) win over Saints.
Bulldogs crushed Lions after quarter-time, piling on seven goals to one to win 9.12 (66) to 3.3 (21).
A strong five-goal second half by Power propelled them to win 7.8 (50) to 1.3 (9) over Mt Barker.
In the other under-12s match Swans downed Eagles by 48 points.
