Sochi bound for Win­ter Olympians

TO Rus­sia with Love was the mes­sage sent out loud and clear at the gala fundrais­ing din­ner held by the Olympic Win­ter In­sti­tute of Aus­tralia at Mt Buller dur­ing open­ing weekend cel­e­bra­tions.

VIP guests on the night in­cluded Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin (snow­board cross) and An­ton Grimus (ski cross) who are both ex­pected to be part of Aus­tralia’s big­gest ever Win­ter Olympic team.

Pullin took out his sec­ond World Ti­tle in snow­board cross ear­lier this year while Grimus placed third on the podium in his com­pe­ti­tion.

2014 Aus­tralian Olympic Win­ter Team Chef de Mis­sion, Ian Ch­ester­man, also made it clear that Aus­tralia was in­tend­ing to make its pres­ence known at Sochi (Rus­sia) with an ex­pected team of up to 55 ath­letes com­pet­ing.

Ch­ester­man said the Aus­tralian ath­letes all now hold world rank­ings of 50 and be­low with Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin hold­ing the world num­ber one spot in boarder cross af­ter tak­ing out the World Cup for the sec­ond time.
