Saski move to Falls
SASKI is the incorporated Snowsport body registered in SA and its main function, now, is to conduct the South Australian Interschool Snowsport Championships, which it has run successfully for 22 years.
The committee has been very busy over summer, reviewing the hosting agreement for the event and has decided to move the event to Falls Creek.
This presents an exciting opportunity to strengthen the historical connection between Falls Creek and the South Australian snowsports community and, more critically, sustain and grow the event.
The actual races are designed for all abilities, so first time skiers and snowboarders can start lessons on the Monday and be able to participate in the races later in the week.
Any SA school student can enter (including home schooled students), as they do not need to be part of a formal school trip or group.
The championship week takes place on July 18 to 22 and is scheduled for the second week of July school holidays for subsequent years.
Races are scheduled for the Wednesday and Thursday but there is an exciting event program for the entire week.
The opening ceremony will be held on Monday evening, snowboard presentation Wednesday evening, alpine and school winners presentation on Thursday evening, and a fun slalom race on Friday morning for participants and families/teachers.
Adults will not be left out either, with a parent/teacher cocktail party on Tuesday night.
Registered entrants can also access a discounted lift and lesson package, although these need to be booked by July 4 via the forms on the SASKI website. These lesson packages will include practice on the designated race course.
The SA Championship also has a new major sponsor for 2016, Telstra Business Centre Wayville, which has naming rights to the event for 2016. SASKI welcomes their generous support.
