Green power back at Mt Stir­ling

HY­DRO­ELEC­TRIC power is re­turn­ing to Tele­phone Box Junc­tion (TBJ) af­ter a tenyear ab­sence. Burnt out in the 2006-7 Alpine Park wild fire, the re­sort has had to rely on a diesel-pow­ered gen­er­a­tor for its elec­tric­ity re­quire­ments.

Thanks to a gov­ern­ment en­vi­ron­men­tal grant and hard work from the Re­sort Man­age­ment Board, a new hy­dro elec­tric­ity plant, com­plete with bat­tery back-up, is near­ing com­ple­tion for a pre win­ter start-up and will see the en­tire elec­tri­cal re­quire­ments of the re­sort fu­elled by the new hy­dro plant.

Mt Stir­ling also has some ex­tremely af­ford­able fam­ily deals on of­fer this win­ter.

Satur­day for Kids – ages 6 to 14, ev­ery Satur­day $60, 10am start and will in­clude a full day of ski hire, ski in­struc­tion, su­per­vised games and to­bog­gan­ing. Satur­day Af­ter­noon Guided Snow Shoe Tour - $45 which in­cludes snow­shoe hire Satur­day 1pm - 4 pm.

Sun­day Ex­pe­ri­ence Guided Ski Tour - $40 or $90 with ski hire and in­cludes a full day of ski in­struc­tion and guid­ing from a pro­fes­sional ski in­struc­tor. Ev­ery Sun­day com­menc­ing at 10am - 4pm. Ju­nior Race Squad – Ju­niors aged 12 to 18, $40 per ses­sion, start­ing at 1pm on Satur­days. The ju­nior squad is coached by in­ter­na­tion­ally ac­claimed cross coun­try ski rac­ers from Es­to­nia and cov­ers every­thing from train­ing, ski tech­nique, race tac­tics, ski tun­ing & wax­ing. School Hol­i­day Fam­ily Camp – Adults $295, chil­dren $175. Full board is pro­vided along with ac­com­mo­da­tion, pro­fes­sional guide and ski in­struc­tion. This unique camp will run from Friday July 7 to Sun­day July 9. XC ski hire will be avail­able on the moun­tain if re­quired with a 10 per cent dis­count.
