Melissa Tucker 22, was in a winter wonderland at Falls Creek on Monday. After a week that finished with torrential rain, the precipitation turned to snow in the mountains at the weekend. About 40cm fell on Saturday and Sunday with further snowfalls forecast for the rest of the working week to rejuvenate the snow for the peak winter month of August. Falls Creek’s Anthony O’Shea said they had been “enjoying” seriously cold weather. “The temperature hasn’t risen much above minus 5 for days,” he said. “And now we have some serious snow on the way too – half a metre or more over the next few days – with a lot of it expected to fall overnight. “This is a rare combination of super-cold temperatures and heavy precipitation, or we should say it’s rare in most seasons but it’s happened a couple of times already this season.”
