Hiker dies on Bogong high plains group walk
A MAN, 67, has died of a suspected heart attack while hiking on the Bogong High Plains last Wednesday.
The man was walking on the Marum Point Track with fellow members of the Bright U3A walking group when he collapsed near Watchbed Creek, about three kilometres from the Bogong High Plains Road.
His fellow hikers immediately gave CPR and called emergency services.
The Falls Creek Fire Brigade and medics from Falls Creek Management Authority attended within 20 minutes and continued CPR until ambulance and police arrived, who continued treatment for another 30 minutes, but sadly the man died at the scene.
