Young stars hit the field

THE re­gion’s up and com­ing soc­cer ta­lent re­cently showed their stuff at the Alpine gala day in Bright on Au­gust 26.

Sides from Bright, Myrtle­ford, Mt Beauty and Yackan­dan­dah all took part in the round robin for­mat at Bright P12 Col­lege.

The Myrtle­ford Re­gional Girls De­vel­op­ment Program team also played on the day, tak­ing on a girls side from Bright.

The Re­gional Girls De­vel­op­ment Program gives girls aged 8-12 the chance to play in an all-girls en­vi­ron­ment while re­ceiv­ing ad­vanced coach­ing.

There are cur­rently 30 girls from the Bright, Myrtle­ford, Mt Beauty and Yackan­dan­dah in the squad which trains ev­ery Fri­day night at Myrtle­ford.

The program was pi­loted in Mt Beauty 12 months ago and has dou­bled in size this year.

“All the girls play in their own mixed teams but with the all­girls squad they can de­velop at a faster rate and hope­fully build con­fi­dence to want to keep play­ing,” zone de­vel­op­ment of­fi­cer Atila Ker­estes said.

The fi nal gala day of the year takes place at Wodonga this Satur­day while the Re­gional Girls De­vel­op­ment Program team will fin­ish the year with games against Wan­garatta and Shep­par­ton sides in Novem­ber.
