State bankrolling re­moval of as­bestos at schools

THREE schools in the Alpine Shire have re­ceived State Gov­ern­ment fund­ing to re­move as­bestos.

Act­ing Min­is­ter for Ed­u­ca­tion, Jenny Mikakos, this week con­firmed that 119 schools across the state are to un­dergo the re­moval of as­bestos that may pose a risk in the fu­ture.

The lo­cal schools to re­ceive fund­ing un­der the gov­ern­ment’s School As­bestos Re­moval Pro­gram are:


Mikakos said the pro­gram of works was start­ing dur­ing the cur­rent school hol­i­days and would be com­pleted by early next year.

Works to be car­ried out in­clude re­mov­ing as­bestos from cab­i­nets and safes along with the re­moval and re­in­state­ment of some ce­ment sheet ceil­ings, walls and eaves.
