THE representative basketball season got under way for Myrtleford on the weekend with three teams travelling to Echuca for the first tournament of the season.

Myrtleford had boy’s sides contest the under 14s and under 16s in division 2 while the under 18s played in division one for the first time.

No team was able to come away with a title but players from all three units got some solid game time under their belt ahead of a long season.

The under 18 boy’s picked up a single win from their four matches.

They won their first game of the tournament against Benalla with a 36-22 result but failed to add to the victory going down to Wodonga (34-27), Echuca (37-26) and Wangaratta (38-26).

Both the under 14s and 16s finished with two wins apiece from their four games.

The under 16s lost to Rochester in their opener but bounced back with a big 57-22 victory against Benalla before finishing the weekend with a 37-16 triumph over Wangaratta.

In their third game the under 16s lost to Phoenix United 28-33.

The under 14s got underway with a strong 3419 win over Echuca before beating Rochester in their second game 31-21.

They were unlucky not to build on those two results suffering narrow losses to Benalla (17-25) and Riddells Creek (21-23).

The next junior tournament is in Geelong on the first weekend of November before a trip to Wangaratta on November 18 and 19.
