Michelini Wines 2016 Sangiovese
HAVING enjoyed one of the coldest winters and best ski seasons of all time, the Alpine Valley has been the place to be over the last few months.
It has always been a spectacular region to visit if you want to see how the seasons change and this year those verdant valleys and snow- capped mountains could be enjoyed all the way into spring.
It was so cold this year I’ve been reluctant to let go of hearty winter soups and slow- cooked stews and have favoured hot roast vegetables every time over salad.
But it’s time to transition and a piping hot pizza topped with sausage, capsicum and mushrooms, accompanied by Michelini Wines Sangiovese, is helping me do it.
This is a wine perfectly suited to enjoying with food including meats and anything with a little spice.
It has a burnished red colour; exuding deep savoury aromas of spicy plum, cherry and tobacco.
There is more of that plum fruit in the flavour but it’s complex and firmly savoury, with a long, dry finish.
Enjoy in a decent glass so you take some time to enjoy those earthy aromas.
Luckily it’s also great when served slightly cooled alongside charcuterie.
Looks like I’m all set for summer.
