24-hour champ set for B24
MULTIPLE World and Australian solo mountain bike champion Jason English will headline the Thule B24 in Bright later this month.
The seven- time 24- hour mountain bike world champion and nine-time Australian champion will ride the event for the first time.
Now in its fifth year, the B24 will see hundreds of mountain bike enthusiasts from across the country converge on Bright to race solo, pairs and team categories over November 18-19.
English who won his latest national crown in Canberra last month said he was excited to be heading back to Bright after a brief visit for a National Cross Country Marathon round several years ago.
“I am keen to come back and see what other awesome trails have been developed and there is no better way of getting to know the Bright trails than riding around them for 24 hours,” he said.
“I really like the event format of the B24, and with the option to ride with your mates while being on the same team will mean more people out on the course which ultimately means more fun.”
While English will be the hot favourite to take out the men’s solo category he will face a challenge from Bendigo’s Shane Roberts who has won the event three times since 2013.
“It’s fantastic to have Jason come to Bright to take part in this year’s Thule B24,” race director Andrew Miller said.
“As well as the elite riders who will be out to claim bragging rights the Thule B24 is really about getting out there and giving it a go.
“We have the Esprit de Corps category for people who want to challenge themselves but in a team environment.
“Basically you ride when you want to ride and if all your team heads out together those hours count towards your 24hour time and it means you don’t have to ride at night.
“This year we have also added a Gravity Enduro element which is quickly growing in popularity in Australia.”
Miller said he expects another great weekend of racing after last year’s event was affected by wet weather.
