Kerrie Fleming

Alpine Observer - - News -

What do you do?

I am the owner, along with my husband John, of the new Alpine Furniture and Appliances store in Bright. We also have a farm in Eurobin where we breed cattle.

What’s different about the shop now compared to what it was previously?

The store is smaller but still offers a full range of furniture, electrical appliances big and small, wood heaters, mattresses, manchester and giftware. We can’t display as much stock as before but we have a lot of catalogues for people to browse to find the right item. Just because you can’t see it on the floor doesn’t mean we can’t get it.

What are you looking forward to in the job?

I’m looking forward to meeting a variety of people and being able to assist them in as many ways as I can.

I have enjoyed my first week and have received a lot of positive feedback about the new-look shop and everyone is pleased that we have opened.

You spent seven years working at the Alpine Furnishing prior to taking over. What did you do before that?

We grew tobacco and I worked as a lab technician at TCV threshing plant in Myrtleford for 11 seasons until the tobacco industry closed down in 2006.

After that I worked in the lab at Rostrevor during hop harvest and the rest of the year I was at home on our farm. My seven years with Fraser and Jenny and many other work colleagues were very enjoyable and a good grounding for my latest venture.

If the person you’d most like to meet came to the Alpine Shire or was already here, what would you show them?

I would take them up the back hill of our property in Eurobin for a barbecue and a hit of golf where the view is breathtaking.

You can see from Porepunkah to Myrtleford and it feels like you can reach out and touch Mount Buffalo.

What are you involved in in the community and what do you do in your spare time?

I have been in CFA for 35 years. I’m a member of the Ovens-Eurobin Fire Brigade where I’m secretarytreasurer, communications officer and a fire fighter.

In my spare time I enjoy being at home and spending time with John and our children and granddaughter.
