Childcare a cut above the rest

Alpine Observer - - News - By ALEX CRAIG

MOUNT Beauty’s Lake View Children’s Centre has been highly rated for exceeding the national quality standard for children’s services and care.

The centre provides long day care and kindergarten programs to families from the Upper Kiewa Valley.

It is managed by Alpine Children’s Services ( ACS), a notfor-profit organisation providing six high-quality early childhood services throughout Alpine Shire.

ACS general manager Jenny Griffiths said Lake View had received an overall rating of ‘ Exceeding the national qual- ity standard’ from the Victorian Department of Education and Training during its most recent assessment.

This is the highest possible rating for a children’s centre in Victoria.

“It reflects the depth of experience and dedication of our team of staff, and is also is indicative of the quality of the service provided to the community by Alpine Children’s Services as a whole,” Ms Griffiths said.

The assessment is based on a ‘national quality framework’ in seven areas – educational programs and practice, children’s health and safety, physical environment, staffing arrangements, relationships with children, collaborative partnerships with family, and community and leadership and service management.

Assessors spent a day at Lake View, watching the staff and children in their usual daily interaction and inspecting paperwork.

Lake View was found to exceed six of the seven standards and to meet one.

The assessor told Lake View Centre co- ordinator Izzy Raw that exceeding standards was an assessment that was rarely made.

Ms Raw said it was exciting to receive such an outstanding rating.

“I really feel this is because of the dedicated team at Lake View which takes such pride in the work they do.

“We have had a busy two years with the relocation and renovations that have occurred.

“I would like to thank my fantastic staff team and Jenny Griffiths for working as hard as they do.

“I believe the ‘exceeding’ rating is a reflection on all that we do.”

The community has played a key role in Lake View’s operation, with support from Mt Beauty and District Community Bank, Mt Beauty Op Shop, Upper Kiewa Valley Lions Ladies, Mt Beauty Cricket Club, Lake View Family and Friends Group, Toy Library and Playgroup.
