Children’s service takes on Tawonga Kindergarten

Alpine Observer - - Bright Hot Rods -

ALPINE Children’s Services will manage Tawonga Kindergarden’s three and four- year- old programs from next year.

The programs are currently run by Community Early Years Childcare, an organisation based in Wodonga.

ACS general manager Jenny Griffiths said local families were looking for management with closer community links, and wanted the Tawonga Kindergarten to be engaged with the other Alpine Shire children’s services.

“A local organisation, run by a local service, is more in tune with what is happening in our community,” she said.

“We are currently in the process of recruiting new early childhood staff for the program, and we are keen to maintain continuity for the children moving from three to four-year-old kinder, as well as being able to adapt the program to meet the needs of the children.”

Alpine Children’s Services will also explore the possibility of integrating a bush kindergarten or similar naturebased component into the pre-school program across the shire, similar to the one already offered in Bright.

Tawonga Primary School principal Kim Franzke said the school was looking forward to welcoming new families to the kindergarten, no matter where they might enrol their children later on for primary education.

“Our kindergarten was started in response to the wishes of parents to have a choice of pre-school services,” she said.

“It is open to all families in the Upper Kiewa Valley, not just Tawonga residents.”

Families wishing to visit Tawonga Kindergarten should call Kim Franzke on 5754 4468.
