Community bank aids local relief effort
ANGLICARE Mount Beauty Emergency Relief and Mt Beauty and District Community Bank have found a new way to support local families in need.
A shelf just inside the doors of the bank has been set aside on which donations of non-perishable food can be left for distribution.
Supermarket shoppers are asked to buy an extra item every now and again and place it on the shelf in the bank for later collection by the relief service.
“Right now we are in need of items such as longlife milk and juice drinks, dry pasta and pasta sauce, tinned fish, vegetables and fruit and instant flavoured noodles,” Anglicare Mt Beauty Emergency Relief’s David Munday said.
“When our requirements change we will let the community know.”
The bank and the re- lief service are long-time partners, having run an annual Christmas tree appeal, where the community is given the opportunity to buy gifts for children of families in need in the area.
A bank spokesperson said that this year’s tree should be up very soon.
