Bombers set to take flight
DEDERANG Mt Beauty coach Jack Neil says excitement is building around the Tallangatta and District league club again.
The Bombers collected the wooden spoon in 2017 but have signed 10 players this offseason and still hope to add to their list over the coming weeks.
Among the arrivals are eight former players including Andrew Hill, Nick Iaria, Dale Lappin, Brent Ohlin, Sam Creamer, Phil Bellingham and Jack and Paddy Stow.
They’ve also secured the services of Cody Hewat and Will Stafani from Wodonga Bulldogs.
“Things are looking really good on and off the field and there’s a pretty positive vibe around the place,” Neil said.
“We’ve obviously brought in some recruits and are working on some others, but we’ve also got commitments from guys looking to play footy again which will add depth to the club.”
Neil said the recruiting focus was to bring in versatile players and people that would contribute to the culture at the club.
“Everyone wants key position players but our game plan is going to be based around run and carry and plenty of pressure so we wanted versatile players,” he said.
“Aside from Brent we haven’t brought in a lot of really tall blokes but most of the guys we have picked up can and will play multiple positions.
“Versatility was definitely a focus, but our recruiting was also about the person and we wanted people that would fit into the club and make it a real positive place to be.
“In terms of both those things we’re really happy with the guys that are coming in and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do for the club.”
Incoming youngster Cody Hewat said he was excited to join Dederang Mt Beauty.
“I’ve got some friends out this way so when the opportunity to come here presented I jumped at the challenge,” he said.
“I played my juniors at Wodonga and made my debut in the seniors last season so this will be my first change of club.
“Jack is passionate about getting the club back up the ladder and I’m excited for us to come together as a group, play some good footy and get to where we want to be.”
The Bombers will begin preseason training in Decem- ber and then start again after Christmas in early January.
Neil said the Bombers will hold a casual get together for members and supporters at the Dederang Hotel on December 1 which the club is encouraging people to attend.
