Pe­ti­tion for toi­lets put to coun­cil

THE Up­per Kiewa Val­ley Com­mu­nity As­so­ci­a­tion ( UKVCA) has sub­mit­ted a pe­ti­tion for a pro­posal to build pub­lic toi­lets in Ta­wonga South.

A to­tal of 837 sig­na­tures were col­lected, 575 of those res­i­dents and 262 vis­i­tors while 473 were ob­tained by Ta­wonga South re­tail­ers and 364 by UKVCA mem­bers at com­mu­nity mar­kets.

The UKVCA’s John Gib­bons said that the pe­ti­tion was handed to Alpine Shire Coun­cil at its Fe­bru­ary meet­ing last Tues­day night.

“Coun­cil will con­sider the pro­posal and pre­pare a re­sponse which will be pre­sented at the March meet­ing,” he said.

“The UKVCA a would like to thank the many peo­ple who helped col­lect sig­na­tures and those that signed the pe­ti­tion for the build­ing of pub­lic toi­lets in Ta­wonga South.”

Last Oc­to­ber Ta­wonga South trader David Whe­lan ap­pealed to Alpine Shire Coun­cil to build pub­lic toi­lets in the town af­ter wit­ness­ing many peo­ple stop­ping to uri­nate in the main street close to shops and busi­nesses.
