Life will be a cabaret with new festival
FAM Events and Productions will host the first ever Bright Cabaret Festival from May 10- 12.
Four acts are set to for the three- day event at Bright while people will also be able to learn off renowned performers during exclusive workshops.
FAM’s Jenny Packham said starting a cabaret festival was something she had wanted to do for some time.
“Back in 2016 Ginger and Tonic, which my niece is part of, came to Bright and performed during the Spring Festival,” she said.
“At breakfast the following morning after they had performed I said wouldn’t it be great to have a cabaret festival here and have other acts part of it too.
“Ginger and Tonic came back last year and now we’ve decided to run with the idea and have got four fabulous shows happen- ing over Mother’s Day weekend.”
Lisa Crawly, Danielle O’Malley and Bright’s own Priscilla Armstrong join Ginger and Tonic on the bill for the first edition of the festival.
“We’re really excited to have Lisa Crawley coming with her show ‘ Elizabeth’ which was nominated for Best Cabaret at the Melbourne Fringe last year,” Ms Packham said.
“Danielle O’Malley will bring ‘ You’re My World - The Cilla Black Story’ which features some of Cilla’s most iconic hits.
“Our home- grown hero Priscilla Armstrong will perform ‘ Goodbye to Berlin’ and Ginger and Tonic is coming back with ‘ For Love or Money’.”
Ms Packham said she hoped to get people, young and old involved in the weekend with workshops running on the Friday and Saturday.
“Part of the festival is to bring in these fabulous shows but also to impart the knowledge and the joy that music and singing brings,” she said.
“We’ll be contacting the local schools and looking to have them participate in some workshops as well as the broader community.
“It’s a great opportunity to learn off some really great and talented performers.”
