Finals on a knife edge as Mt Beauty falters

MT BEAUTY’s hopes of keeping a 10-year finals run intact took a hit on Saturday as the home side were bundled out for 143 by Eskdale.

The Power did not have a batsman make over 25 in what was not the sort of performance the club would have been looking for after winning the toss and batting.

After coming together at 5/ 79 captain Alastair Randell (22) and Greg McLennan (25) looked to have the Power back on track with a 32-run stand but both were soon dismissed by returning quick Liam Tobin.

Tobin who took 50 wickets in the 2015/16 season had not bowled an A grade ball for the season prior to Saturday.

In reply, Eskdale were 1/16 before rain brought play an early end to play with Joel Sauervein grabbing the wicket of Matt Vinnicombe caught and bowled.

The Power will take solace from the fact Eskdale have made just 71 and 135 in their past two first innings.

In other district action, Howlong posted a solid 179 against Dederang.

Former Wodonga player Andrew Dishot took 6/30 for the Demons.

The top of the table Dederang will be confident they can chase down the total next week having made 239 against a strong Wodonga bowling attack in their last match.
