Police looking into alleged sex offences

Alpine Observer - - People Around Town -

POLICE are investigating historical child sex offences which allegedly took place in Myrtleford and Porepunkah over a period of almost 30 years.

Detective Senior Constable Wade Spokes said the offending was reported to Wangaratta Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team last year.

“Initially one victim came forward last year which led to four more being identified, all originally from Myrtleford,” he said.

“All have made statements to police, describing offending committed against them, dating as far back as the early 1960s and continuing until at least the late 1980s.”

All offences are alleged to have been committed by one person, a man now aged 69, from the Myrtleford area.

He has been interviewed in relation to the matters.

The investigation is ongoing.
