Wooden spoon danger for Tigers after loss to Wanderers
OVENS Valley United’s season will end winless and potentially with a wooden spoon with a final round thrashing at the hands of Beechworth on the cards.
The Tigers, missing a host of regular players, suffered a week one defeat and will need to fight hard to avoid an outright loss after the Wanderer’s bowled them out for 88 and chalked up 4/127 in reply.
Only wicketkeeper Andrew Newton made double figures for the Tigers with his 49 coming off just 53 balls while blasting 10 boundaries.
Newton had the Tigers off to a good start at 1/60 but once his dismissal was followed by a fi rst ball duck to James Neary the collapse began.
The Tigers lost 9/28 to be all out in just 32.3 overs after winning the toss and batting.
Beechworth cruised past the total with Campbell Fendyk making an unbeaten 38.
Andrew Newton added to his strong individual performance removing the gloves to snare 2/18.
Will MacLean playing in his first A grade game for the year also grabbed a wicket to finish with 1/35 off 8 overs.
