Alpine Observer - - Sport - By JUSTIN JENVEY

BRIGHT has ended its season with an improved batting performance on the second day of their final round match against Greta.

After finally dismissing the Blues for a mammoth 319 the Wanderers avoided outright defeat by producing one of their best batting performances in recent weeks.

The home side finished the match on 4/190 in their second innings with Seamus Phillips and Dylan Bursill blasting the Greta bowlers to all parts of Pioneer Park.

The pair brought up the team’s 100 in just 16 overs and quickly moved the score along to 159 before Phillips was out attempting to clear the boundary, two runs short of his century.

The aggressive righthander smashed 19 fours in his innings of 98 while Bursill retired on 55 before youngster Harry Jamison got some quality time at the crease with an unbeaten 15.

After finishing in the top four in each of the past three seasons Bright will miss this year’s finals series after ending the year on the bottom of the A reserve ladder having failed to win a match after Christmas.
