A space for worship and the community

BRIGHT Church of Christ will officially open its new worship centre this weekend after the new facility was completed in August.
Pastor Reverend Warren Hodge said the project was initiated two years ago with construction of the building starting in January.
“We identified that we were a bit restricted especially with an expansion of young families join our congregation,” he said.
“It’s about double the size of the old church and just allows us to have more space for a more contemporary worship.”
The new worship centre has been built right next to the old cathedral in Park Street which will still be used for Sunday school.
Reverend Hodge said it was hoped the new facility will assist the church in its endeavours to make further positive contributions to the local community.
“We’ve built this for the community not just for us,” he said.
“Our members are heavily involved in the community in local service and advocacy groups as well as through our sponsorship and chaplaincy of the United Bright Football and Netball Club.
“We see this building as facilitating better community engagement and we’re inviting people to approach us to use it.”
Further development is also in the pipeline with the Bright Church of Christ recently receiving planning approval to build a foyer and new kitchen at the front of the modern worship centre.
It’s hoped the second stage of works will take place sometime next year.
