This app isn’t new, but it has had an update making it worthy of another look. To say this is a free app with in-app purchases seems a little untrue. Yes, you can create without paying a cent, but to unlock the true potential of this app, you’ll have to reach into your wallet. One-off payments for extra fonts, drop shadow effects or graphics range from $2.99 to $4.49, but to unlock the full pro version, you’ll have to fork out $11.49 per month. The extra tools on offer are quite good, such as templates, the ability to use shapes, more fonts and word art, online source photography, the ability to place projects on hold and start a new one, and so on, but if you’re just looking for a quick meme creator, then the free version will be more than enough.

The interface is super simple, though there doesn’t appear to be any sort of tutorial. After asking for permission to peer into your phone’s photo collection, you can select a picture as the background (or use the default), then set about laying over text, shape and art elements. You can easily resize and rotate everything, plus there’s a handy ‘undo’ button at the top, too.

Whether you’re looking to use this app for just a bit of fun, for designing birthday invitations or business cards, or even mocking something up for the boss, it will likely be able to help. However, if you’re looking for something more featurerich, you’ll have to pay up.
